JayHawk Invitational (April 26th-28th, 2013 - Kansas City, MO)

JayHawk Invitational (April 26th-28th, 2013 - Kansas City, MO)
4-1 Tournament Record, 11-3 Overall Record
MN Fury Ramey played some very good basketball in Kansas City.  Put in the Spine Bracket, it faced some fellow teams from MN, some teams from KC, and some other teams from across the US.  In its first game, not part of the actual bracket play, it handily defeated the Tulsa Titans 52-20, utilizing its lockdown defensive effort to allow only 13 points in the first half and 7 in the second.  Kevin McKiernan (Prior Lake, 5’9”) continued his hot shooting, leading all scorers with  19 points, including 5 3 pointers.
In the first game of bracket play, MN Fury Ramey ran  up against a very solid Renegades team that consisted of solid outside shooting and driving capability.  The first half was an exciting one, with MN Fury Ramey down by as many as 10 points, but battling back to within 2 points at half.  Renegades lead at half 37-35.  Then Matt Morse (Apple Valley, 6’1”) and Max Lynch (Edina, 6’7”) took over.  Morse hit three 3 point shots in the 2nd half alone and scored 13 of his twenty points in the 2nd half onslaught, while Lynch shot a perfect 5-5 from the field and finished the game with twenty points as well.  MN Fury won the game, 84-70, in the highest point total of its season thus far.  McKiernan finished with 14 and his Prior Lake teammate, Heidecker, contributed 13.
The second bracket play game was against an athletic but out-sized Nebraska 15u team. While they had the all around speed advantage and put on good ball pressure, they could not fluster the guards for MN Fury Ramey, especially Sam Skoyen (Hastings, 6’2”).  Skoyen was unstoppable in this game, scoring a game high and season high 28 points.  Heidecker chipped in with 14 points and Morse added 9.
Next up was NLHA (Nebraska) and while they kept in the game up until half time, the 2nd half proved too much for them.  Halftime score was MN Fury 39-28, but second half finished 71-50 and an early finish due to a 20 point rout.  Kevin McKiernan lead all scorers with 18, Sam Skoyen had 15, and Jake Meyen had 10 points, including impressive floor leadership which lead to some easy back door cuts for him and his teammates.
The Championship game was against an athletic OZ Elite team that pressed the entire game.  MN Fury Ramey struggled to handle the pressure and committed 15 turnovers in the first half.  Despite this, they were down only 29-26 at half time.  Try as they might, they still struggled to get into an offensive flow, mainly as a result of the solid pressure defense of OZ Elite.   The final score was 57-46, with the MN Fury finishing second overall.  Stat of the game: MN Fury Ramey finished the game with 29 turnovers.
