Minnesota Comets (April 13th & 14th 2013 -
St. Cloud, MN) 4-1 tournament record, 4-1 overall record
ALL TOURNAMENT TEAM: Joe Morris, Burnsville
The first showing of 10 tournaments that the MN Fury Ramey will play in the 2013 season started off with its good and its bad. At times, the collection of players from six different twin cities area high schools came at strong, and at other times they showed that there was a gelling of talents that would need to take place. After sweeping its pool 3-0, it faced the 4th ranked 16u Heat Reese team with an early 8am game. Though the Fury players woke up early and traveled far for the game, the fatigue that one might expect did not show up in their overall game play. The MN Fury took a 26-23 halftime lead behind an equal barrage – Jake Meyen and Joe Morris leading the way with 6 points apiece and Sam Skoyen adding 5. The 2nd half proved a different story, as the MN Fury outscored the heat 39-22 to take home the victory in commanding fashion, 65-45. Joe Morris (Burnsville, 6’3” – later named to the all tournament team) lead the way with 15.
The second championship bracket game was against the other 16u MN Fury team, led by Edina assistant coach, Matt Johnson. The game started off slow for both teams, with buckets hard to come by, especially for MN Fury Ramey. Down 29-18 at half, the 2nd half come back effort fell short and Fury Ramey lost the game with a final score of 66-43. Craig Nielsen (Hastings, 6’5”) lead all scorers with 12.
